Doobie Brothers Add 11 New Dates to 50th-Anniversary Tour

The Doobie Brothers have added 11 more dates to their upcoming 50th-anniversary tour. New concerts will now take place in cities including Chicago, Sacramento, Phoenix, Dallas and Nashville.

A complete list of dates is available on the band’s website. All tickets will be available for purchase starting April 8. The 50th-anniversary tour launched last summer, even though it was originally scheduled to take place in 2020.

Shows start on May 13 in Las Vegas and run through Oct. 12 in Nashville.

“It’s a crapshoot, really, whether we’ll make it to the end of this or not, but I hope we do,” Tom Johnston told the Associated Press at the time, acknowledging that the pandemic may continue to alter touring plans. Not long after the tour started, the band postponed four shows when “a member of their touring personnel” tested positive for COVID-19.

The upcoming tour is particularly notable for the presence of Michael McDonald, who will be performing in the lineup for the first time in 25 years.

“With any band, but especially one on the larger size, you want to look for where you can be a contribution to the whole thing,” McDonald told Rolling Stone at the beginning of 2020. “And I know my job as singing will be just what it is. I’ll sing the songs that I sing and then just do backgrounds. I’m really looking forward to that. I’m looking forward to having less responsibility as a lead singer [than] I do with my band. When you’re out on the road for months, there’s always these periods of time where you’re gasping for air and hoping your voice will show up. It’s going to be fun for me to just sing a couple of songs a night.”
